How it works
GaragePass is a membership based automotive shop– like a gym for your car.
With your membership, you will receive lift booking credits, which you can use to reserve lift time right on this site. Our most popular membership is just $150/month ($30/hour) and we also have a $60/month option.
Memberships come with lift hours already baked in, our most popular $150/month option comes with 5 hours–no extra costs. In addition to the lift time, you get access to tools, fluid collection and our monthly members events + community discord. Not to mention membership perks like discounted towing, detailing, and discounts with our sponsors.
Like a gym, you can cancel anytime. Lift hours never expire and unused hours roll over to the next month and stack up infinitely. Use the space when you want, how you want it!

FAQ
Where are you located?
950 77th Ave, Oakland, CA — right off 880. First shop of hopefully many. San Jose coming soon in Q4 2026/Q1 2027!
What does a membership include?
Every GaragePass membership comes with:
- Lift access — book your lift time through the appointment system on our website. Your booking, your lift.
- Community — free monthly events, our members’ Discord, and a members’ lounge coming soon.
- Tools — everything from basic hand tools to the complex stuff: engine hoists, transmission jacks, smoke machines, and more. Stop buying a $400 tool for one job.
- Coolant, oil, and fluid removal + Metal Recycling— drain your fluids into our collection containers and we handle the rest. No trunk full of milk jugs.
- Member perks — discounted towing, sponsor discounts, and other partnership-based perks (with more being added as we grow).
We also offer several optional monthly add-ons
- Monthly Parking – We have long term parking available for deep restoration work or engine-out projects.
- Storage Lockers/Sheds – We have several private storage options available on-site starting at just $15/mo.
- Monthly washes and Detailing- We’ve partnered with a local detailer to offer monthly beauty services for your beloved car(s).
Do you provide tools, or do I bring my own?
Yes we provide pretty much everything you’ll need. We’ve got you covered on the big stuff: lifts, jacks, stands, and a solid selection of hand tools and shop equipment. Got your own tools you trust? Bring ’em. Specialty tools for your specific job (that one weird Saab socket) — bring those too.
And yes, the 10mm sockets are accounted for. Mostly.
What kinds of automotive/motorcycle work can I do at GaragePass?
Anything. Seriously — if you can wrench it, you can do it here.
Looking for a place to do your own oil change? Fifteen minutes on a lift and you’re done — no more crawling around a parking lot. Need somewhere to do a brake job, suspension install, lift kit, wheel bearings, or exhaust work? That’s daily business here. Tackling the big stuff — a transmission swap, clutch replacement, engine swap, differential rebuild, or axle work? This is exactly what the shop was built for. We’ve got transmission jacks, an engine hoist, and specialty tools free to loan, so you’re not buying a $400 tool for one job.
We take your used fluids too — oil, coolant, trans fluid — so there’s no trunk full of milk jugs at the end of the day. Drain it, dump it in our collection containers, wash your hands, done.
Members are currently doing everything from routine maintenance to classic car restorations and motorcycle builds. If your project needs a lift, tools, and space — this is the spot.
How do I reserve a lift? What if everything’s booked?
Everything runs through the member portal on our website — you use your hour credits to reserve lift time, and nobody else can book your slot. Booked time is your time.
We cap total membership based on capacity — we’re not going to sell 500 membership and let you fight it out. If we’re near capacity, we start a waitlist rather than overselling. Your hours are usable when you actually want them.
Do I need experience with auto work to become a member? What If I’ve never used a lift before?
Nope — zero experience required. Everyone starts somewhere, and a lot of our members joined specifically because they wanted to learn.
Before your first lift session, you’ll complete our lift safety training — waivers, videos, and a hands-on walkthrough with us in person. It’s required for everyone and completely free, and by the end you’ll know exactly what you’re doing. First-timers usually pick it up quick; experienced folks breeze through it.
And once you’re wrenching, you’re never on your own: we have on-site mechanics who can give advice and this is the kind of shop where the person two bays over will happily walk you through your first brake job. Show up curious, leave capable. That’s the whole point of the place.
What if I get stuck or a job takes longer than expected?
It happens to the best of us — seized bolts and wrong parts don’t care about your schedule. Here’s how we handle it:
- Book longer than you think you need. We refund unused hours if you finish early, so there’s zero penalty for padding your booking.
- We can assist and advise as needed. Stuck on something? Ask. Between staff and the community, someone’s solved your problem before.
- We limit capacity on purpose. Fewer members per lift means slack in the schedule when life happens.
- Overflow parking outside. If your car needs to come off the lift while you wait on parts, it’s got a spot — you’re not stranded.
- Worst comes to worst, we move appointments around. This is a community space — being understanding is the whole point.
I’m a professional — can I run my business out of GaragePass?
Yes, with conditions. Pro members need their own business branding and insurance (you cannot sell your services as GaragePasss) and the setup works best for quicker jobs — brakes, suspension, lift kits — with non-runners stored elsewhere. We have large hour packages available to get a reasonable work space without all the overhead/startup cost of a full shop!
What if I don’t like GaragePass?
First off — we hope you love it. We do everything we can to provide the absolute best experience for our members, and if something’s not working for you, tell us. We’d rather fix it than lose you. This is not a big corporation that doesn’t care about you, we’re just a bunch of car guys trying to make an awesome space-if something’s off, let us know and we’ll do everything we can to fix it!
Second: you can cancel anytime. No long-term commitments, no contracts locking you in, no hoops to jump through. If it’s not for you, no hard feelings. Your feedback is welcome and we will do our best to improve 🙂
